The SEND reforms have been in place for 4 years, with the 2015 SEND Code of practice providing both statutory and non-statutory guidance to Local Authorities and schools regarding provision for children with SEN in schools. This webinar will examine the changes that the 2015 code has brought about and the impact that these changes have had on children, parents and schools. Linked to the notion of change, the webinar will consider how parents and SENCos are increasingly needing to advocate for children with SEN, specifically dyslexia and the strategies they utilise to do this.

Dr Helen Curran is a senior lecturer in SEN at Bath Spa University. Her research interests relate to the role of the SENCo and SEN policy, in particular how SEN policy is implemented in schools.

Helen trained as a primary school teacher, has also been a SENCo, assistant head teacher and Local Authority Specialist SEN advisor.
