This book, ‘Tips for Adult Dyslexics’, is a bridge from some adult dyslexics reaching out to others. It is a book which provides useful, practised information about what dyslexia is, what support is available and, crucially, tips for strategies that dyslexic adults can adopt in order to help themselves.

Finally, there is a call to action. A plea that readers will get involved to whatever extent they can manage – whether it is through being open with others about their dyslexia and so helping to change perceptions towards dyslexia, or participating more actively in the dyslexia field. Either way, I hope the following extract from Maryanne Williamson, that was quoted by Nelson Mandela in his inaugural speech as President of South Africa in 1994, will inspire you to shine.

‘Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? ……. Your playing small doesn’t serve the world. There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We were all meant to shine, as children do.…. And as we let our light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.   As we’re liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others’.

A very good read to understand dyslexia, as I got diagnosed as an adult a couple of years ago it helped answered unanswered questions and was helpful for my confidence.
